New Chatham girls’ football squad gets dressed for success
20 December 2019: A new girls’ football team in Chatham will be getting football kit and aids thanks to a £250 sport award.
Valley View Football Club under-10s was nominated for UK Power Networks’ Team Sport Award by supporter David Denham, whose granddaughter is a player and whose son is the team coach.
The maintenance manager for UK Power Networks Services, who lives and works in Chatham, said: “This award will help the team get up and running from scratch, that’s the goal.
“They started the season in the summer with nothing so the money will help to get the club into a league and start playing football.
“The majority of grassroots football clubs still cater for men and boys but Valley View Football Club want to bring girls into the fold. It’s an expensive business so funding like this helps and the money will go towards kit, bags, coats, training aids and anything else they need.”
The team train on Wednesdays in Chatham and play matches on Sundays.
The Team Sport Award scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. So far this year, more than 70 local sports teams connected to the company’s staff have benefitted.
