We’re proud to have contributed to the success of this Great Western Electrification Project which we’ve been working on since 2014.

Electrification of the line between the two capital cities results in thousands of extra seats, more regular services and faster journeys for passengers as they travel on GWR’s Intercity Express trains. Passengers will be benefiting from 15,000 more weekday seats and an average journey time saving of 14 minutes between the two capitals.

Working in partnership with ABB, with support from Siemens, we were responsible for the detailed design, procurement, construction and installation, system integration, testing and commissioning, and handover of 27 trackside substations, 111 track sectioning cabinets providing supply and control to more than 500 motorised switches, 90 kilometres of high voltage cabling and 250 kilometres of low voltage cabling as well as the associated SCADA and communication control systems.

Throughout the project we have achieved more than one million hours work without a single lost time injury, nor have we caused any delays to the operational railway.
